There is still about a month of summer left and trying to plan activities and experiences for our kids during this time out of school is a daunting task that consumes every parents’ mind. To all the summer crazed kids ready to enjoy every moment of the break, there are endless opportunities and activities that occupy both time and energy. Whether you are enjoying family and friends or just simply looking for your child to occupy themself, there are many benefits of gardening with children!
Why Gardening?
Teaches kids to not be afraid of the dirt and creepy crawlers
Getting kids outside of their comfort zone and into the dirt gives kids a newfound appreciation for the world around them. Get down and dirty with your kids by making those infamous mud pies filled with worms and rollie pollies! This new found comfort will only encourage your kids to become more hands on in the garden! Also, remember it is important to teach your kids the importance of worms as well as other insects and how they help not only the soil, but our fruits and vegetables and even how they help plants grow!
Builds bonds with kids
Are you struggling to pull your child away from the TV or tablet? Maybe even struggling to get them out of the house? Well, gardening is always the answer of course! Gardening is the perfect way to work hands on with your child(ren) daily or even weekly. Encouraging your children to spend time in the garden, in return, builds a strong bond between you. I find the best way to spark that interest in the garden is to allow your child(ren) to pick out which fruits or vegetables they want to plant. Maybe even allow them to pick out some flowers or various plants! The more they feel in control, the more interest they will hold in the activity!
For those of us who are doing all the heavy tilling in the garden and moving all the soil, Jambo CBD Balm is a great option! This all-natural CBD pain-relieving balm is great for aches and pains- certainly those pains from a full day of gardening!
It encourages kids to eat healthier!
As a parent, it is always hard to encourage our children to eat fruits and vegetables, because let’s face it, who can pass up a bag of chips? Fostering excitement and interest in the vegetables in the garden will only lead to healthier eating habits. Swap in a vegetable from the garden the family grew in at least one meal throughout the day and praise your child(ren) for their hard work in the process!
