Easy Steps to Enjoy Winter Workouts

As much as no one wants to admit, the winter months are quickly approaching. Even though the winter months come with the beauty and happiness of Christmas and the New Year, there really isn’t much about the cold parts of the year that are enjoyable.

Unfortunately, the winter blues comes along with the cold weather which causes a decrease in health and fitness due to a lack of motivation to get outside with the freezing air. To counteract those tough feelings, let’s look at some tips that can help you be a healthier and happier version of you this winter!

Step 1: Work out

I know it is easier said than done to just workout especially when the internal motivation is lacking but working out helps to build your immune system, and keep you healthy! I know you are probably thinking, it’s dark by 5, and you have to warm up your car and put on your heavy jacket before even going to the gym but those workouts will help keep you on schedule and cold free for the winter months!

Step 2: Eat well

It’s important to make sure that you stick to clean eating, especially through the holidays. All the additional sweets, snacks, and the hard to resist drinks along with all the other delicious goodies that come with the holidays; do your best to stay focused on your end goals.

Step 3: Drink water

Being sure that you have the proper hydration is the most important part of staying healthy no matter what time of the year it is. Carry around your favorite water bottle, and make sure you keep filling it up! Be sure to put a few drops of Jambo’s CBD Drops to keep your body feeling great. The CBD Drops are unflavored, and made from all-natural ingredients including full-spectrum CBD hemp oil and coconut MCT oil. The drops come in three different strengths: 300mg, 900mg or 1500mg as well as a variety of flavors: unflavored, cinnamon, tropical, mint, cola, and licorice.

Step 4: Cover your head in outdoor workouts

If you decide to work out outdoors, be sure to wear a hat or something to cover your ears from the winter breeze. This will certainly make your workout more enjoyable and less frigid! Making sure you and your body stays warm is the key to avoiding any injuries. Some quick tips for protection from the cold include:

  • Dressing in loose-fitting layers to capture plenty of insulating air
  • Protecting your hands, feet, face, and ears with appropriate accessories
  • Wearing sunscreen- yes even in the winter wearing sunscreen is important to avoid burning your skin

Step 5: Put the snow to good use

While running in the cold can be exhilarating, there are a few other effective ways to use the snowfall to your advantage. Try a snow-based activity such as cross-country skiing or snowboarding to maximize your winter exercising potential with something fun! If you have been looking for an exercise that works your legs, arms and core, you should give these winter workouts a try.

Rub it everywhere! Use a pea-sized amount, and massage into any spot you have muscle or joint pain. Avoid your face, eyes, and under bits or you’ll be in for a ride.

Step 7: Be smart

This piece of advice may not be season-specific but always take precautions when you are working out. The most important part of exercising during the cold winter months is to plan ahead. If the weather is extremely cold and snowy outside, be smart and try exercising inside. There is no shame in hitting the treadmill or trying a new at-home workout video from Youtube. My favorite winter workouts from Youtube are always a good yoga session or a hardcore HIT workout from Whitney Simmons!

H2: Winter workouts at home

  1. Jump rope

I recently bought a jump rope, and couldn’t help but to laugh because it reminded me of elementary school. I always thought jump ropes were for little kids but boy, was I wrong!

Within a minute, jump roping can raise your heart rate and make you seriously out of breath! The first couple of times you may only last a few minutes but the more you jump, the better your calves will be!

  1. Stair stepping

Stair stepping is a great exercise to try if you have limited workout equipment. Pick out a pair of stairs in your home and get stepping! Step up and down continuously until you work up a sweat! This will help keep your body healthy and active.

  1. The plank

If you don’t have a lot of time but you want to build up your core muscles, planks are the exercise for you! Get into a push-up position but instead of bending your arms, and moving down towards the floor, hold the position with your arms extended. Try holding your plank for a minute and then 20 seconds off and repeat for about 5 times! Add an additional 10 seconds each day to get a core of steel!

  1. Dancing

In college, I lived in a house with a bunch of girls, and we often found ourselves dancing to our favorite songs! We would get bored with normal workouts and running, so we started to have dance parties where we would go absolutely crazy! Believe it or not, dancing is an excellent way to burn calories, and get your heart rate going while having fun!

  1. Lunges

I was in a workout class a few years ago in college, and one of the exercises was to do lunges down the hallway instead of in place. We would step forward, and go down the entire hallway and back. I could always feel the intense burn in my legs with this workout! You can do the same thing in your home! Try it whenever you go down the hall, or from room to room, and trust me you will feel the burn!

  1. Water bottle weights

If you are looking to do some arm, shoulder or even back strength training, you can make your own weights by filling up water bottles! If using water bottles becomes too easy, you can use milk jugs!

  1. Jumping Jacks

This is another great elementary school gym class throwback but it offers a great cardio workout. If you are watching TV or even a movie and find yourself getting restless, try doing jumping jacks during the commercials!

While working out in the winter months is hard for a lot of people, making easy and simple changes to your daily routine can help keep you healthy and moving during the cold months ahead. Don’t forget to get the best Jambo products that will help keep you feeling great!
